fonehome

Fonehome

FoneHome.co.uk, is a site on the absolute front-line of the UK mobile phone scene, powered by a crack team of experts and dedicated to delivering the very best daily mobile news, latest reviews, hottest hands-on videos, must-know tips and tricks.

Republic Publishing had highlighted that users often came to the site for advice before getting a new mobile and asked Devstars to re-design and re-focus Fonehome on phone comparisons.

New WordPress templates were designed and created and a custom plug-in was built to tag articles by made, model and os.

For hosting we setup a virtual server instance using Amazon’s web services along with full system monitoring, relational database service and content delivery network.

No Tie Generation

Generally we write our own CMS’s but this time round we were asked specifically for a reskinned WordPress site. WordPress gives you a quick route to market but most blogs do tend to look like, well blogs and our first task was to address this issue with our good friends at Mystery Brand Design. A snazzy front end was design and built around a 960 px grid, using dhtml and javascript to bring movement and accordian style navigation. One of the great things about WordPress is the large number of plug-ins which can be used to add functionality like analytics tracking, twitter feeds and links to social networking sites.

Watt Works

Working closely with our design partners Sane & Able we created a brand new identity for consultancy start-up Watt Works. We built the site using WordPress, with some custom work behind the scenes to get specific colours on certain pages, custom (non-web) fonts, recommended books in the footer & a few niceties for people with better browsers. 90% of all this is editable from within WordPress.
